About me

Portrait of Alxandr Kane York
Howdy! As you can probably guess, I'm Alxandr (and yes this is spelled correctly) Kane York, a Neuroscience Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Michigan in the Jonides Lab. My research centers around cognitive control, that integral ability to focus one's attention on a given moment or task. My methods include behavioural measurements (psychophysics), eye tracking, EMG, and computational modeling.

I completed my B.A. in Psychology at the University of Central Arkansas in 2019 and am on track to complete my Ph.D. within the next year, give or take. For my next step, I'd like to transition into some sort of data role, so-to-speak. The name of the specific role is less important than what I would actually be doing, which I hope is working with data in some form. My training as a Neuroscientist has required me to use a variety of data science and statistical methods from basic hypothesis testing to working with hierarchical Bayesian models. On top of that, I have completed two projects in collaboration with others to get my feet wet in spaces outside my discipline: using machine learning to predict D&D combat success and looking at factors that predict depression.
